Community Guidelines

Purpose

Sale Spotted! works when neighbors help each other find real, time-limited yard and garage sales—safely and honestly. These guidelines apply to every listing, photo, comment, message, report, and profile. They supplement our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Who can use the Service

You must be 18 or older. Do not create accounts for minors or post content that targets or exploits children.

Be accurate

• Post real sales with honest times, locations, and descriptions
• Update or cancel listings that end early or move
• Do not invent sales, fake addresses, or “bait” pins
• Community reports should only describe sales you actually observed

Location & privacy

• Submitting a pin stores the precise location; public discovery may show a privacy-redacted or approximate location, especially until a community-spotted sale has a verified host
• Only list addresses you have authority to publish (your home/sale, or a public observation)
• Do not dox others, post private addresses to harass, or reveal co-occupants’ info without consent
• Choose “signed-in only” when creating a sale if you do not want guests to see the pin
• Avoid photos of children, license plates, or sensitive interior details when possible

Prohibited content & items

• Illegal goods or services, stolen property, counterfeit IDs
• Controlled substances and related sales; illegal weapons
• Sexual, pornographic, or exploitative content; any CSAM or trafficking-related content
• Hate, threats, harassment, or violence
• Scams, phishing, spam, or misleading “guaranteed” claims
• Malware, attempts to break security, or bulk scraping outside Partner API terms

We use automated filters and human review. Violations can lead to immediate removal, suspension, and reports to law enforcement or NCMEC when required.

Photos & messaging

• Only upload photos you have rights to share
• Verification photos and comments should help others assess a live sale—not attack hosts
• Keep messages sale-scoped and civil; no spam or off-platform payment pressure

Reporting problems (fastest takedown path)

Use the flag / Report control on a sale detail sheet for:

• Illegal, unsafe, or stolen-goods listings
• NSFW or harmful images
• Scams, fake pins, harassment
• Spam or duplicate abuse

Moderators review the queue at Admin → Flags. Provide enough detail to verify. For copyright, use Contact Us with subject “DMCA.” For platform issues not tied to a sale, use Contact Us.

Enforcement

Actions may include content removal, visibility limits, temporary or permanent suspension, and cooperation with authorities. We may act on reports, automated signals, or our own review. Repeated or severe violations lead to permanent bans.

In-person conduct

Be respectful at sales. Follow local laws and property rules. The Service does not mediate disputes between buyers and hosts. Your safety is your responsibility.
